DLT Profile
Acoustic
Designed for people who are blind or have low vision, the Washington State School for the Blind's Life Skills Training Center uses material, light, sound and texture to support confident independent living.
The two-storey, 11,570-square-foot building combines a residential learning program on the ground floor with training and support services above. Bedrooms, shared living spaces, a kitchen and an outdoor courtyard create a home-like setting where participants can practice the routines of adult life.
Acoustic DLT ceilings form part of a sensory design strategy that treats sound as a wayfinding and comfort tool. DowelLam supplied approximately 1,300 square feet of acoustic panels, providing exposed timber surfaces with integrated sound absorption.
