DLT Profile

Acoustic

Opened in September 2026, the Sustainable Engineering Laboratories creates an interdisciplinary research hub for clean energy, transportation, batteries and environmental technology at UMass Amherst.

The 74,415-square-foot facility brings wet and dry laboratories, faculty offices, classrooms, a café and shared student spaces together as a new front door for the College of Engineering. Flexible laboratory lofts are designed to adapt as research needs change, while multi-level commons connect the building's research community.

DowelLam supplied approximately 36,500 square feet of acoustic DLT panels. Left exposed within the laboratory lofts and gathering areas, the timber contributes to the building's embodied-carbon strategy while providing a finished structural surface with integrated acoustic performance. The primary images are architectural renderings; one construction photograph documents the installed DLT, and finished project photography will follow.
