This 100-year-old timber building, previously used as a factory, was in need of significant repair before it could be re-purposed and re-occupied. At the same time, the client’s desire was to preserve as much of the existing 2”x6” Douglas-Fir mill deck as possible.
After inspecting all the decks, it was determined that 100% of the roof and about 40% of the floor deck area needed to be replaced. We chose our Douglas Fir 2x6 DowelLam as an appropriate replacement and closest match to the existing deck. We provided the DLT in two forms: 8’-wide x 16’-long panels for the roof and 2’-wide billets to customize on site and insert into the floor decks as required. In the end, we provided a total of 48,000 sqft of DowelLam DLT for the project, including framing for a 10’x20’ skylight. The new DLT turned out to be an excellent fit and the renovated building now serves Dubuque as beautiful exposed-wood office space.
